The 70th Filmfare Awards South was held on Saturday at the Elux Convention Center in Kochi, Kerala. In this ceremony, the best films and artists of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada film industries were honored.
Amitabh Bachchan won the Best Supporting Actor (Telugu) award for the film Kalki 2898 AD. This was his first South Filmfare Award. Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Ashwatthama in Prabhas starrer film.
Here, the film Pushpa 2 won five awards in the Telugu category, which included Best Film, Best Director (Sukumar) and Best Actor (Allu Arjun). In the Tamil category, the film Amaran won seven awards, including Best Film, Best Actor (Sivakarthikeyan) and Best Actress (Sai Pallavi).

Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2, released in 2024, had grossed over ₹1,800 crore worldwide.
Malayalam cinema superstar Mammootty was chosen Best Actor for Brahmayugam. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given posthumously to late actor-filmmaker Srinivasan. Sanya Malhotra, Nidhi Agarwal, Aparna Balamurali and Pranitha Subhash gave live performances at the ceremony.
Amitabh Bachchan did not attend the ceremony
The film Kalki 2898 AD was released on 27 June 2024. It was a resounding success at the box office, earning over ₹1,000 crore worldwide.
The film won two awards at the Filmfare Awards South (Telugu) 2026, with Amitabh Bachchan winning the Best Supporting Actor (Male). Nitin Giani Chaudhary received the award for Best Production Design. However, Amitabh Bachchan did not attend this ceremony.

Amitabh Bachchan has started shooting the second part of the film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in February 2026. Soon he will be seen in another film.

History of Filmfare Awards South The Filmfare Awards are presented by South Times Group’s Filmfare magazine. Filmfare Awards was started in 1954, initially this ceremony was held only for Hindi films.
Then in 1964, awards for South Indian languages (Tamil-Telugu) were started. At the same time, Malayalam films were included in 1967 and Kannada language films in 1970.
With time, separate ceremonies started being organized for each industry. Earlier this ceremony used to be held in Mumbai along with Hindi film awards, but after 1976, the South Segment was separated and shifted to Chennai and Hyderabad.

The trophy of Filmfare Awards is called Black Lady. It is made of bronze, is approximately 46.5 cm high and weighs 2-5 kg.
Talking about Filmfare South, Kamal Haasan holds the record of most individual awards (19) and most Best Actor awards (17).
K in the Best Director category. Vishwanath and K. Balachander has won maximum 8-8 awards.
AR in music. Rahman is on top with 18 awards. Whereas in playback singing, K. S. Chitra and Shreya Ghoshal have received 10 awards.
Talking about the records of films, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana and RRR have won the maximum 9 awards for a film. Whereas films like Anniyan, Baahubali 2, Soorarai Pottru and Amaran won 8 awards each.
