The dissatisfaction of the employees of private companies, which was simmering for the last three days in Noida, suddenly flared up on Monday. The protest which till yesterday was limited to sloganeering and peaceful protest, took a violent turn on Monday. Hundreds of employees took to the streets, blocked many places, and at some places incidents of vandalism and burning of vehicles were also reported. Seeing the situation worsening, the police had to immediately take charge and divert traffic on many routes.

This entire controversy is not limited to just the demand for increasing the salary, but behind it is also hidden the story of the anger, dissatisfaction and alleged exploitation of the employees that has been accumulating for a long time. During the demonstration, the employees openly raised questions on the functioning of the companies and made many shocking allegations.

Give 15 thousand, show 25 thousand

A protesting female employee told Aaj Tak, we get a salary between Rs 9 to 11 thousand. Even after working hard for years, there is no significant increase in it. If you raise your voice too much, they increase the amount by Rs 200-300, as if they have done a big favour. Another female employee said, we are made to work for 10-12 hours, but the salary is only Rs 15 thousand. On top of that, when someone comes to investigate, the company records show that we get Rs 25,000. Employees allege that everything is shown correct on paper, but the reality is completely different. Expressing displeasure, an employee said that if we protest, a small increase is given, but the real problem remains the same.

Long working hours, missing facilities

Many employees said that they are made to work more than the stipulated time, but are not paid properly in return. Overtime pay is either not paid at all, or it is deducted. An employee said, we work from morning till night. Even leave is difficult to get. No medical facilities, no security… just take work and pay minimum, this is what is going on. Women employees also expressed concern about safety. He says that even basic facilities are not available in many places, which makes working even more difficult.

from Faridabad Noida effect till

The echo of this movement was not limited to Noida only. A large number of workers also took to the streets in Sector-37 of Faridabad. Employees of many companies stopped work and started protesting regarding their demands. It is being told that thousands of employees of Motherson Company have gone on strike. Apart from this, workers of other industrial units also left work and came out, due to which production is also being affected.

Police and administration alert

Considering the situation in Noida, police has increased security in many areas. Traffic was affected due to the protest by employees near Fortis Hospital in Sector-62, Noida, after which traffic was diverted from under Sector-59 Metro. Police officials say that the situation is being monitored and strict action will be taken against any attempt to disturb law and order.

Administration’s appeal

The District Magistrate has appealed to all the employees to maintain peace. He said that labor brothers and sisters should return to their workplace peacefully and cooperate in maintaining law and order in the district. Besides, advice has also been given to avoid rumours. A control room has also been activated to help the employees, where they can register their complaints. The administration says that every effort will be made to resolve every complaint quickly.

Many demands had already been accepted

Let us tell you that on Sunday itself a meeting was held between the administration and representatives of industrial units, in which many important decisions were taken. According to officials, it will be mandatory to pay double the amount to the employees doing overtime and no deduction can be made in it. Instructions have also been issued regarding weekly holidays. It will be necessary to give one day leave in a week to every employee. If someone is employed on Sunday, he will have to pay double the wages. Apart from this, strict rules have also been made regarding salary payment. Companies will have to send the entire salary to the employees’ accounts by the 10th of every month and it has also been made mandatory to give salary slips. The deadline for bonus payment has also been fixed, under which the bonus will have to be sent to the employees’ accounts by 30th November.

Emphasis on women’s safety

The administration has also adopted a strict stance regarding the safety of women at the workplace. All companies have been instructed to form an internal complaints committee, which will be headed by a woman member. Apart from this, facility to install complaint boxes at workplace and register complaint through helpline has also been provided. Officials say that regular monitoring will be done to ensure that the rules are followed.

Still why did you get angry?

The biggest question is that when the administration had accepted many demands, then why did the anger of the employees flare up so much? In fact, employees say that rules made on paper do nothing unless they are followed at the ground level. An employee said that we have heard such promises many times before, but the reality has not changed. He believes that unless there is transparency in the functioning of companies and rules are not strictly followed, it will be difficult to improve the situation.
