KOLKATA: West Bengal’s second supplementary electoral roll was released around 11 pm on Friday, though there was little clarity on how many of the 12 lakh names in it had passed judicial scrutiny.As it was when Election Commission After releasing the first supplementary rolls around midnight last Monday, CEO Manoj Agarwal had more questions than answers. “Out of 60 lakh pending cases, about 37 lakh have been disposed of so far. After receiving the list from Calcutta High Court, the EC will take 4-6 hours to process and upload it on our server,” he said in the afternoon.
The list can be accessed at voters.eci.gov.in, ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in and ECINET app. Copies will be displayed at polling stations and available to District Election Officers, DMs, SDOs and BDOs. Those who did not make the cut can appeal online or offline within 15 days before the Appellate Tribunal. Another list is scheduled to be released on April 3.According to EC sources, 35-40 per cent of those whose documents were checked by the judicial officers were disenfranchised.CM Mamata BanerjeeThe TMC on Friday filed an appeal before Calcutta High Court CJ Sujoy Paul, seeking the release of the daily supplementary list. The party said the first list contained only 749,863 names, though judicial officials had disposed of 27 lakh cases by then. The remaining 20-odd lakh names had no information, it said.It also noted that 11 of its electoral candidates were still in the dark about their voter status under the verdict. It flagged the narrow window for disposing of appeals against exclusion, citing an April 7 deadline to “lock” voter lists for 152 constituencies for the first phase of voting.On Friday, CJ Paul chaired a meeting with Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala, Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh, DGP SN Gupta, Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda, CEO Agarwal and Special Roll Observer Subrata Gupta on the release of the second supplementary list.
