This is the story of 80 year old Lilavati… a mother whose life took such a turn that everyone would be stunned. Year 2015…month of February. A mountain of sorrow fell on Lilavati’s family in Dojha village. Her husband died on 9 February. There was mourning in the house. The family had not even recovered from this deep shock when after three months another incident happened. Lilavati suddenly went missing.
At first the family thought she might be somewhere nearby, but as hours turned into days and days turned into weeks, concern grew. Son, daughter-in-law, relatives – everyone set out to search for him. A search was conducted from village to village, city to city, relatives, hospitals, even in the surrounding districts, but no trace of Lilavati was found anywhere.
When nothing was found even after months of searching, the family’s hope gradually began to fade. When they got only silence after knocking on every door, they finally accepted that Lilavati was no more in this world.
My heart was heavy, but traditions had to be followed. The family performed his Shraddha with a heavy heart. There was a strange silence in the house that day – as if someone had extinguished the last ray of hope.
Time passed… days turned into months, months into years… and slowly life started picking up its pace. But mother’s memory always remained alive in some corner of the heart.

On the other hand, thousands of kilometers away in Rajouri of Jammu and Kashmir, a different story was going on. One day, Indian Army soldiers found an abandoned elderly woman. She was weak, tired and unable to identify herself. But the army soldiers did not leave him just like that. They took care of them, provided food, treatment and most importantly – started trying to find out their identity.
After days of hard work and continuous efforts, his identity gradually came to light – he was none other than a resident of Uttar Pradesh. baghpat Lilavati was a resident of.
One phone call… and everything changed
Then came that moment which changed everything. Army soldiers contacted Lilavati’s family. The phone rang, and when the news of mother’s safety was received from the other side.
The family did not believe it at first. Those whom he had performed all the rites assuming death, are alive. When the truth came out, there was no limit to the happiness.
The family members immediately left for Rajouri. Thousands of questions in the heart, hope and fear in the eyes – will the mother really be found? And then that moment came. There was laughter amidst the tears, and celebration after the pain. 80 year old Lilavati herself also participated in this celebration. She too was smiling and dancing… as if life had given her a second chance.
Lilavati’s grandson Billu tells that grandmother had gone missing 11 years ago. We assumed him dead and even performed Shraddha. When the call came from the army personnel that he was alive, it was hard to believe. Today we are very happy. His son Satish says that when we came to know that mother was alive, we immediately reached Rajouri. Mother recognized us…that moment cannot be expressed in words. This is no less than a miracle.
The role of the army was most special in this story. The soldiers took care of the elderly woman and took her to her family. This was the most beautiful example of humanity.
Sometimes life takes such turns where everything seems to be over… but somewhere a new beginning is waiting for us. Lilavati’s return proved that some stories never end… they just come alive again with time.
