Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced a two-day ceasefire on the occasion of Orthodox Easter and expressed hope that Ukraine would also follow it, the Kremlin said. Let us tell you, Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on 12th April this year.
“In view of the upcoming Orthodox Easter holiday, a ceasefire is declared on April 11 and until the evening of April 12. We are proceeding on the basis that the Ukrainian side will follow this step of the Russian Federation,” the Kremlin’s announcement said.
Defense Minister Andrei Belousov has instructed Russia’s top military commander and chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, to halt military operations in all directions during this period, the announcement said.
“The armed forces will have to be prepared to thwart any possible provocation or aggressive move by the enemy.” However, till now there has been no immediate reaction from Ukraine on this.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been proposing a ceasefire over Easter for more than a week, citing airstrikes on Ukrainian cities that Moscow has responded with drone strikes.
