Mahashivratri 2026: Lord Shiva is very kind. He listens to the prayers of his devotees and takes away their sufferings. For this reason, there are descriptions of many great devotees of Mahadev in every era. But have you ever heard about the biggest enemies of Mahadev? In Shiv Purana and other texts, there are descriptions of many such demons, who had enmity with Shiva himself due to his asceticism, ego and unrighteousness. Let us tell you today about the biggest enemies of Lord Shiva.
Jalandhar
Jalandhar was an extremely powerful demon, who was born from the anger (anger) of Lord Shiva during the churning of the ocean. Jalandhar had received a boon from Brahma that his destruction was possible only when his wife Vrinda’s vow of marriage would be broken. Jalandhar, intoxicated with power and ego, defeated the gods. Later he started trying to gain control over Kailash also. Ultimately, Lord Vishnu broke Vrinda’s vow of marriage with his leela and Lord Shiva succeeded in killing Jalandhar.
Tripurasura
Tripurasura is also included among the biggest enemies of Lord Shiva. Tripurasur refers to the three demon brothers – Tarakaksh, Kamalaksh and Vidyunmali. All three were sons of Tarakasura. Tripurasura built three flying cities (Tripur). When their atrocities started increasing in Trilok, the gods requested Lord Shiva to liberate them. After this Lord Shiva killed him and he was called Tripurari.
Andhakasura
Andhakasura was the son of the demon Hiranyaksha, to whom Lord Shiva had given the boon of immortality. But after receiving this boon, he became arrogant and started misusing his powers. Not only this, he even had the audacity to bring Mother Parvati under his control. Due to this unrighteousness, there was a fierce war between Shiva and Andhakasura, in which Lord Shiva killed him.
Bhasmasur
Bhasmasur was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Through rigorous penance, he had received the boon that whoever he laid his hand on would be burnt to ashes. As soon as he got the boon, he tried to lay his hands on Lord Shiva. Then Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini and tricked Bhasmasur into ashes himself.
