Uttar Pradesh ATS has raided Moradabad and arrested BDS student Harish Ali, resident of Saharanpur, on charges of being linked to the online module of ISIS. Harish came in contact with the terrorist organization for the first time while preparing for NEET in Rajasthan. He was brainwashing the youth by running groups under fake names on encrypted apps like ‘Session’ and ‘Discord’. The accused used to hide his identity by using VPN and was in direct contact with foreign handlers who were plotting against India. The police will now take him on custody remand and interrogate him.
Cryptocurrency funding and the network of ‘Al Ittehad’
ATS investigation has found strong clues about Harish receiving funding through cryptocurrency, which is being investigated in depth. He had formed his own secret group named ‘Al Ittehad Media Foundation’, where he used to share ISIS propaganda magazines ‘Dabiq’ and ‘Al-Naba’.
At present, there are more than half a dozen other suspects on the radar of security agencies, who were part of this digital network of Harish. This module was working on the radical thinking of instigating the youth for suicide attacks and implementing Sharia law.
Social media becomes weapon of Jihadi propaganda
During interrogation, it was revealed that Harish Ali had the mentality of rejecting democracy and establishing the Khilafat system. He had made social media a weapon to spread radicalization, where he used to share pictures of killed terrorists, poisonous speeches and audio-videos.
According to ATS, he was connected to ISIS handlers not only in India but also in Pakistan. Moradabad While studying in college, he had tried to drag many of his friends into this quagmire. ATS is now conducting raids to destroy its entire network.
