Farmerwho were busy hoping for a good harvest till a few days ago, are now busy calculating the losses. There are reports from many places including Nigoha area of Lucknow that rain and hailstorm have damaged both standing and harvested crops. In the fields where harvesting has already been done, the risk of wheat grains turning black due to getting wet has increased. At the same time, in the fields where the crop was still standing, the hail bent the ears or dropped them completely. Farmers say that this time there is a possibility of loss up to 40 percent. This is not just a figure, but it has a deep impact on their hard work and expectations throughout the year. Many farmers said that due to continuous rain for the last few days, harvesting work has come to a standstill. Workers are sitting idle and machines are not able to reach the fields. Due to this, there is a possibility of further increase in crop loss.
CM Yogi took cognizance
This changing mood of the weather has not only affected the crops but also the mental condition of the farmers. On one hand there is pressure of debt and costs, on the other hand there is fear of declining production. In such a situation, uncertainty about the times ahead has increased. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath Has taken this situation seriously. Expressing concern over the continuous rain and hailstorm, he has given strict instructions to the officials to remain active in the field and remain in touch with the farmers. The Chief Minister has clearly said that the impact of this disaster should be minimal on the farmers and it is the priority of the government to provide relief to every affected person.
Report sought from all District Magistrates
The Chief Minister has called for a detailed report from all the District Magistrates. Also, they have been instructed to go to the villages themselves and take stock of the situation. The real loss should be assessed not just on paper but on the ground. The Revenue Department, Agriculture Department and insurance companies have been instructed to conduct the survey jointly, so that there is no delay in the compensation process. The government has also said that it should be ensured that the farmers whose crops have been destroyed get compensation in a time bound manner. The Chief Minister also said that negligence will not be tolerated at any level. To expedite relief operations, officials have been asked to remain on alert mode 24 hours.
20 people died, 33 animals also lost their lives
Not only the crop loss, but also the loss of life and animals during this period has been taken seriously. In the last one week, about 20 people died, 12 people got injured and 33 animals died due to excessive rain and lightning in the state. In all these cases, after the instructions of the Chief Minister, the District Magistrates have started distributing compensation to the affected families. The government has also said that the families whose houses have been damaged in this disaster will be provided houses on priority basis under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana. At the same time, instructions have been given to provide assistance to the eligible beneficiaries under the Farmers Accident Insurance Scheme as soon as possible.
