Yunus also appealed to political parties that their leaders and supporters should refrain from intimidation, violence or disrupting the voting process.
He warned, ‘Any attempt to forcibly capture polling stations, disrupt voting or incite unrest will not be tolerated.’
Elections being held in Bangladesh amid violence
There is news of heavy violence during voting in Bangladesh. Dhaka polling body has reported irregularities at 140 polling centres. There are reports of clashes at 43 places.
Bangladesh Election Commission sources told local media, ‘Irregularities were reported at 140 centers across the country. There were incidents of scuffles and fighting at 43 centers and polling agents were allegedly thrown out at four centres.
