After the landslide victory in the general elections of Bangladesh, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) President Tariq Rahman and congratulated him. The Prime Minister described this victory as a symbol of the aspirations and democratic faith of the people of Bangladesh.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said that he spoke to Tariq Rehman and congratulated him on his historic success in the elections. PM Modi wrote that he wishes him all the best for his efforts to fulfill the expectations of the people of Bangladesh.
In his message, PM Modi also mentioned the historical and cultural relations between India and Bangladesh. “It was a pleasure to speak to Mr. Tariq Rahman. I congratulated him on his landslide victory in the Bangladesh elections. I extended my best wishes and support to him in his endeavor to fulfill the expectations of the people of Bangladesh,” he wrote in the X-Post.
He further said, “As two close neighbours, whose historical and cultural ties run deep, I reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to the peace, progress and prosperity of the peoples of both our countries.”
Earlier, PM Modi had congratulated Rahman for his spectacular victory through ex-post.
It is noteworthy that in the 13th parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Nationalist Party has won an overwhelming majority. The party-led alliance has crossed the two-thirds majority mark in the 300-member Parliament. This election is considered to be a big change in the politics of Bangladesh. This election was the first major general election after the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power.
The return of BNP to power after a long political hiatus is being seen as an important turning point in South Asian politics. BNP has expressed gratitude to the countrymen after winning the elections, but the party has appealed to its supporters not to celebrate. The party has urged workers to offer Friday prayers and remember former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
