Special Judge Jitendra Pratap Singh, who on Friday acquitted former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader Manish Sisodia and 21 other accused in the Delhi Excise Policy case, has heard many important cases before also. These include the case related to Congress leader Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, in which an order was given to reopen the case related to the paintings of famous painter MF Hussain.

The judge had canceled the order of the magistrate, in which the complaint demanding prosecution against former Union Minister Bhanwar Jitendra Singh was dismissed. The court had said that prima facie there were sufficient grounds to take further action against him in the case of criminal breach of trust.

Who is Judge Jitendra Pratap Singh?

Jitendra Pratap Singh, currently serving as Special Judge in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, is a senior officer of Delhi Judicial Service. On Friday, he made headlines by ordering the acquittal of Kejriwal, Sisodia, K Kavita and other accused in the excise policy case.

Jitendra Pratap Singh hears high-profile corruption cases investigated by central agencies, especially the CBI. Jitendra Pratap Singh, who studied law from Delhi University, was appointed Additional Sessions Judge in October 2024.

He has gained recognition for his expertise in handling complex corruption cases. He has also rejected petitions in cases related to communal statements made during the elections, which include the case of BJP leader Kapil Mishra.

Kapil Mishra’s petition was rejected

On March 7, 2025, he had rejected the petition of Kapil Mishra, in which the trial court’s order to summon him in a 2020 case was challenged. The case was related to tweets made before the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, in which Shaheen Bagh area was described as ‘mini Pakistan’ and the election was called a battle of ‘India vs Pakistan’.

Order for release of Amanatullah Khan

On November 14, 2024, Judge Jitendra Pratap Singh had also ordered the release of Amanatullah Khan in the money laundering case. This case was related to alleged irregularities in the recruitment process of Delhi Waqf Board during his tenure as the Chairman.

In the Excise Policy case, the court of Judge Jitendra Pratap Singh said that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the accused and relied on conjectures rather than concrete evidence. Debate has started on this decision and CBI has challenged it in Delhi High Court.
