General George is a career infantry officer and a graduate of West Point Military Academy. He has fought for the US Army in the Gulf War as well as in Iraq and Afghanistan. Usually the tenure of the US Army Chief is four years.

The appointment was made during Joe Biden’s tenure

General Randy George was nominated by Joe Biden to be the Army Chief in 2023 and was confirmed by the Senate. His tenure as army chief was till 2027. US Army Deputy Chief of Staff General Christopher Lanev is being considered as a possible successor to General Randy George. Lanev has also been the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division from 2022 to 2023. The 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army specializes in parachute assault. Currently, the division is commanded by Major General Brandon Tegtmeyer.
