India on Sunday strongly condemned Pakistan’s recent airstrike inside Afghanistan. India called it an attempt to divert attention from Islamabad’s domestic shortcomings and reiterated its support for Kabul’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Responding to media queries, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India condemns the strikes in which civilians, including women and children, are reported to have been killed during the holy month of Ramzan.
Jaiswal said, “India in Afghan area Pakistan Strongly condemns the airstrike in which civilians, including women and children, are reported to have been killed during the holy month of Ramzan. This is another attempt by Pakistan to expose its internal failures.” He further said that India reiterates its support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
What did Pakistan say on the airstrike?
Pakistan had earlier said that it had carried out intelligence-based attacks on about seven alleged terrorist targets inside Afghanistan. This action was described as revenge for recent terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.
Islamabad’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting claimed it had ‘strong evidence’ linking several attacks (Islamabad, Bajaur and Bannu) to Afghanistan-based handlers.
In the most recent attack in Bannu, a suicide blast on Saturday killed an army lieutenant colonel and a soldier, Islamabad officials said. The statement said responsibility for many of the attacks belonged to Bain Tehreek-e-Taliban As well as terrorists associated with the Islamic State (Khorasan Province).

“The attacks were also claimed by the Afghanistan-based Pakistani Taliban, affiliated with Fitnah al-Khwariz (FAK) and their affiliates, and the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP),” the ministry said.
Pakistan said it has repeatedly asked the Afghan Taliban administration to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory against Pakistan, but alleged that Kabul Failed to take ‘strict action’. In this background, Pakistan, in retaliation, on the basis of intelligence, has precisely and accurately targeted seven terrorist camps and hideouts of FAK and its affiliates and Pakistani Taliban of ISKP in the border area of Pakistan-Afghan border.
Islamabad has also appealed to the interim Afghan government to fulfill its promises and asked the international community to put pressure on Kabul to fulfill its responsibilities under the Doha Agreement.

What did Kabul say?
Afghanistan has described these attacks as a violation of its sovereignty and international law. In a statement, the Afghan Defense Ministry warned that the attacks in Paktika and Nangarhar provinces would require a ‘necessary and calculated response’.
The ministry said protecting the country’s borders and citizens is a ‘sacred religious and national duty’ and Afghanistan will not remain silent in the face of continued cross-border violations.
